Low Profile 5.1 Surround Sound card issue

Hey,

 

Im having an issue with the Dell inspiron 530s, it's a nice computer dont get me wrong, but while i was buying it i totally forgot to make sure it had a MIDI input on the back (i just assumed this was standard).

 

Now it has a 5.1 sound card built in, and iv had no problems, but luckily i bought i 5.1 sound card from the shop at the same time, so i was all set to install one anyway, This is when i realised it had no midi input, Now this is a essential for me as im a Music student at Uni and i use programmes such as cubase and logic alot, requiring a MIDI keyboard.

 

Then basically, another problem struck with that the sound card i had bought, which actually had a midi input, was to wide for the tower, wich for some reason is to slim?

 

So i brought this up upon returning the soundcard which wouldnt fit, and the guy said to look for low profile 5.1 sound card, which he said would be hard to find UNLESS on the internet.

 

So naturally away i go to find a soundcard, which brings me here... I cant seem to find a low profile 5.1 sound card which comes WITH a midi input, to fit my machine.

 

Any ideas? im outa my league here lol.

Cheers for the link mate, thats perfect for me, i didnt want anything fancy, just a cheap 5.1 card with midi ability so i can actually do my work lol.

A bit late now perhaps, but I did buy some time since, maybe last year, a midi to USB link cable, trouble now is I can't find it to tell you who made it. It has a small box halfway down it, which I assume is the converter box to convert the midi to something the USB can handle. It works fine with my laptop and sound card.

Damn, i was so excited when the post came this morning, sound card was here, i practicly ripped open my computer and tried installin it

but its still to big?

 

Is there a special component for this computer or what? im such a n00b at this stuff coz iv never had to upgrade my sound or graphics cards...

 

I bought the one u said wich is a low profile isnt it?

 

So how come!! Man.... its getting on my nerves, i dont even care about the 5.1 surround any more i can live without it, i just need the midi lol...

 

can any one help?

Take a pic of the case with the side off.

Even in a shuttle it will fit.

if you have email on your mob take a pic and then email it to your email account on your pc and then upload?

Do you know what make and model case you have and MOBO?

Case is slim, slimmer then normal comps...

cheers for ur patience btw mate this is doin my nut in and all Dell support said "we can not advise u on this issue, please speak to the maker of your card", which just happen to be German by the looks of things.... anyways..

Its still not that slim that it should not fit - when you insert the card from the side the but at the end on the ports thats angled needs to go down the side of the MOBO (Motherboard) and then you slot the interface part into the PCI slot at the same time -http://z.about.com/d/compreviews/1/0/J/4/DIY-PCI06.jpg Edited October 22, 2008 by Dalo Harkin

Ahh man, its hard to explain, i know what u mean sort of, i just wish i cud get these pics to u, i got basically an over hang of 3 of the speaker line inputs, the only bits that fit are the midi input and 2 of the speaker inputs...

 

GAH!!

 

Problem is its prolly me not doing it right wich is tikin me off, iv sent emails from my phone to my account but that was 10 mins ago and still aint been recieved, i havnt got a blue toothe device on here either....really annoyed lol.

 

The sound card plugs into the white things yeh? that looks like old mastersystem game bottoms.... and the bit wich is at a right anlge at the end of the sound card near the inputs, is supposed to sit flush with the right angle built on the computer yeh?

 

the problem im havin is, even when pushed down the side of the MOBO, theres still an over hang in which the case of the computer will not sit back on how its supposed to...

 

can i try sending the pics to you?

I am not sure if this is what you need -

You are going to have some serious issues upgrading that machine with anything - you would be far better investing in a new case and then transferring all the parts over.
