Guest Rabble Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 My default settings for Sounds and Audio Properties do not work. If I go to Hardware Properties, My Soundmax Audio is indicated as "Enabled" but, in reality it is not and I have to disable it then "Enable' it again to get Audio to work. My Volume Properties in S and A shows "No Audio Device" and no Volume Control is available in the Task Bar until I do the reset. The Audio shows a default of "Modem#3 Line Playback". The same for Record. No MIDI device shown. This happens every time that I close down. I have reinstalled SoundMax - any ideas on this problem please TIA Ron
Guest FrankChin Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 RE: Sound and Audio Devices I had a problem with my Realtek soundcard, and the problem arose due to a Windows XP update, where upon loading of a DLL, a problem with the memory used by the Realtek driver arose. A problem like this cannot be solved by the reinstallation of the driver. The fact that you have "enabled" indicated seems to me to be that sort of a problem. I went to the Realtek Website where they have updated drivers, and then the Microsoft Website had available a "hotfix", and also listing the problems the update caused, including Realtek. If you go to the Soundmax Website, they also speak about memory taken by other applications, though rare, causing problems which cannot be solved by a reinstall. Suggest you check further with the Soundmax people. For me though, "restoring to a previous good configuration" solved the problem immediately, as it got me to the point just immediatley before the Microsoft update. At that point, I didn't turn off the "automatic update", so when Window updated itself again, the problem returned. I did another restore, and turned off "update". Guest FrankChin Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 RE: Sound and Audio Devices One more thought. The fact that reset solved your problem indicates to me an errant process loaded after your sound driver. The reset then over wrote the resulting conflict. You'll have to figure out what was updated loaded in recently causing the problem.
