Unfortunately, since you've told us nothing about your computer that's as specific as I can get. The First Question Of Troubleshooting: what changed between the time things worked and the time they didn't? The Second Question of Windows Troubleshooting: what is the malware/virus status of the machine? If you think it is clean, what programs (and versions) did you use to determine this? Be sure the computer is clean: http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Removing_Malware If the computer is virus/malware-free, do clean-boot troubleshooting to narrow down the cause of the problem: Clean boot in Windows XP - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310353 Clean-boot advanced troubleshooting in Windows XP - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/316434 How to Troubleshoot By Using the Msconfig Utility in Windows XP - http://support.microsoft.com/?id=310560 Malke -- Elephant Boy Computers http://www.elephantboycomputers.com "Don't Panic!" Your post is rather hard to follow. Did you or didn't you go through *all* the malware removal steps? Was your computer infected? With what? I thought you could get into Safe Mode. I don't understand your last "paragraph" at all. If you can get into Safe Mode, create a new user account and see if that works. While you're there, undo what you did with msconfig and be more careful about what you disable. There are numerous reasons why a machine will hang at logon - malware damaged startup files, a program or process starting with Windows, something disabled that shouldn't have been, etc. I can't even begin to guess from the information you've provided. I'm sorry but without a clearer understanding of exactly what you did, it will be impossible for a person who can't see your computer to unravel things. Consider taking the machine to a professional computer repair shop (not your local version of BigComputerStore/GeekSquad).
