Guest sjb Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 My original OS was XP Pro SP1a so is the installation CD. The OS of mine has become via automatic upgrades SP2. As it turned out to be the computer's OS was missing i386 folder and its files required for the Fax service's installation. To get the upgraded i386, I largely integrated my OS's installation folder with Win. XP SP2, see MS article # 900871 that refers to XP home, XP pro, XP pro SP 1a. But I have not run the "in-place" upgrade yet. Should, or should I not run this upgrade? Thanks for any advice. sjb

But if you know the location of the SP2 version of the FAX service files that are needed, then pointing to this location should be all that is needed to get FAX up and running. There is no need create and put these files into an i386 folder nor should it be necessary to repair or re-install the existing SP2 update. If any manual intervention is needed by the user, then it would be to key in the path to the location of the pertinent driver files.
