As it wasn't the same person who replied, i am double checking and adding some input.

What you should check is that it's reading your hardrive when it's loading for those 5 seconds. If it's not try checking the connection between the hard drive and computer. It could be a faulty lead but they are cheap and easy to replace. Secondly if your Ram is Loose you may notice a Beeping and then it wouldn't load.

If Computers always worked i would be out of a job. This is why i love to hate computers. :)

I had bought a Bran new PC and 20% of the time it would run but rest of the time it wasn't picking up my hardrive, this came down to a cheap cable supplied with the computer so i swapped it with an old one and worked, Later went back and added the same cable to old PC as was giving it away and same problem occured there.

I have never heard of a PC that popped the RAM out and then in again at will

The fact that if you keep pressing the power on and then off again indicates that the MOBO is tripping and faulty, this is most often caused by a badly constructed PC and someone that has used the wrong size standoff's or a screw that is caught somewhere causing the MOBO to shut down if it arcs.
