zuki831 Posted October 22, 2008 Posted October 22, 2008 Hi y'all you may remember me from such greats as "external hdd from pc to ps3" and more recently "upgrade issues". now ive decided to take Dalo's advice and hang fire till i can afford both a mobo and processor but i still have £150 in pcworld vouchers and after paying £20 for 1gb ram and £25 for fitting leaving approx £105 im wondering about upgrading my existing x1650 pro pci-e. now again, i am faced with the problem of stock (lack of choice at pc world) looking on't t'interweb it looks like the Geforce 8800 gtx pci-e is the one to go for but pcworld only do 8800gs pci-e so any advice guys? also it needs to be one i can forward onto my new mobo (when i get it) and im thinking perhaps going intel so it needs to be good with both (dont ACTUALLY know if that matters) or should i just upgrade my hdd with vouchers and get graphics card from elsewhere? Thanks as always. Quote

Thanks as always. You paid £20 for the RAM and they charged you £25 for fitting it  have a look at my sig - it literally takes 5 seconds to fit it! HDD's are expensive from PC World as are all parts! I would just save the vouchers for things like games from there and when you upgrade the MOBO and CPU do the GPU then. As long as you get a GPU that is 16x PCI-E then it will fit in your new board when you get it - Quote Intel Q6600 @ 4Ghz (Watercooled)Asus P5K premium black pearl4GB OCZ Reaper 8500260GTX Join Free PC Help - Register here Donations are welcome - here PC Build We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else. After all, no one knows everything and you may have the answer that someone needs.

Dalo Harkin Posted October 22, 2008 Posted October 22, 2008 When I post under the red and green writing there is one saying PC Build - have a look there and yes £25 is a joke for them to install anything NO component takes more than 5 minutes to fit. Static - yes and no - but you VERY RARELY get any issues from static - If you are overly concerned about it then before you fit a component touch the bare copper pipe at the bottom of one your radiators. I have fitted hundreds of components and not one has ever had a static issue. KenB Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 Further to Dalo Harkin's answer... If you switch off at the wall and leave the plug in - this maintains the earth (ground) connection to your M/Board through the PSU. There is less possibility of causing damage through a build-up of static if you do this. Remember to discharge any static in you by using the method above or simply touching the bare metal of the chassis.
