Hi there, wondered if you could possibly help me please? Fitting a USB2.0 PCI card into my iMedia 5070 PC running Windows XP Home SP3 stops windows loading. Before reaching the user account select screen, the PC shuts down and reboots. Can only get further by selecting 'last known good config' option. Tried all PCI slots; The PC works fine without the card; The card works ok in a different PC. I'd appreciate any advice. Thanks guys.

That seems very odd - if you boot the PC with the card in - can you get to safe mode?

you may have to do that first so that it can pick up the device and then reboot normally.

No go

That's not an option, it seems! Got as far as logging on to Windows this time before it rebooted. I can't get the pc into safe mode, unfortunately. Selecting that option just fills the screen with lines of DOS info before apparently locking up. Took the card out and pc now working ok again.

That is VERY unusual - and the fact that it works in another PC aswell and not yours -

right - pop the CMOS battery out for 2 minutes and then reinsert it - leave it with the USB card in and then see what it does - see if it boots normally

Possibility

Hi, I think you might be onto something there with the battery. It's been running for about 5 mins now with the card in. It came up with a 'cmos battery low' warning but otherwise booted up normally apart from the AVG and NTL Broadband Medic update managers not working. Going to try another reboot, keep fingers crossed!

Yeah - the CMOS is not holding the settings - get a new battery ASAP and it should be fine :)
