Hello and Thanks in advance. I am away in The States on business. The other day I tried to download a PDF form from a very reputable shipping company that I use. Since Adobe Reader (I think it was 6) indicated that a file was missing. I just decided that I may as well download the newest version and I had no problem with the form after that.

However, related or not, the last 2 times I started the computer it did not seem to load properly. There were fewer than normal icons on the taskbar and any network reference was missing. I went into My Computer to see what it said about networks and it stalled. Task manager showed it as not responding.

I did a restart and everything came up fine and everything was working. I know this happened once before the other day and I am not sure if I had a normal startup in between as I am not that focused on the problem. I have not had this before but normally I let the laptop hybernate when I am home and rarely do a starup from nothing.

Any thought on why this may be happening and wht I should do about it will be appreciated. I may not be able to reply as quickly as normal.

Did you uninstall the old version of Adobe or just install the newer one over it?

Did you d/l Adobe from their site or another - nothing to do with Adobe would have caused you network icons to not appear?

type msconfig into run command and look at the startup tab and make sure that nothing to do with networking is unticked

Thanks for the reply.

I didn't uninstall first although probably should have. I installed over the original installation that was probably several years old. Although I was in a rush I was careful to make sure that I downloaded directly from the adobe site.

As of right now I have not shut down the machine since I posted this simply because I do not want to take a chance of losing the use while away on business. I wll tonight and see if there is a problem when I start it up. MSConfig seems the same as where I left it. The only things unchecked are items that I did deliberatly and some time ago.

I will let you know if this continues or just a one or two off quirk.

Thanks again
