Guest David Ocampo Posted September 20, 2007 Posted September 20, 2007 Can anyone help with the following system error reported in Event Viewer? I am running Windows XP SP2. Windows is not properly loading cdr4_xp.sys which I believe is making my system unstable -- I sometimes get an unexpected Windows stop error, otherwise known as a "blue screen system crash." Even though Windows reports the driver is not loaded, Windows is still able to recognize the CD-ROM device. I already checked to make sure the system file is located in the path "C:\windows\system32\drivers" and it is there and the file is fine (not corrupt and no hidden virus). Microsoft does not have any knowledge base articles about this problem but it is well documented among Windows users on the Internet who have installed an older version of Roxio Easy CD Creator. I do not have this software installed on my system and I never had it. I already checked KB article 315345 on this issue. I am not sure, but I think all I need to do to fix this problem is find the corrupt registry key but I don't know which one to fix. Thank you for any solution you have to this problem. Here is the error message in Event Viewer: Event Type: Error Event Source: Service Control Manager Event Category: None Event ID: 7026 Date: 9/19/2007 Time: 8:38:41 PM User: N/A Computer: TOSHIBA-USER Description: The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load: Cdr4_xp For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
