Guest Phil Posted September 20, 2007 Posted September 20, 2007 Hi, XP SP2 USB-stick 1GB regularly used. Yesterday evening no more detected on whatever usb port tried. Tried this morning on work PC : same !! Windows XP doesn't detect it ( nothing in explorer), nor asks to install new hardware. "Add Hardware" doesn't detect new hardware either when incited to detect Any help ? USB-stick seems to be ok on external examination and contacts seem to be normal. What can I do since it clearly is teh stick that is deficient somehow. TIA all !! This is a 1GB stick. No data on it, but buying a new would be a problem now ! TIA again

Sometimes you can recover by reformatting but if it isn't detectable you won't be able to do that. 1-2 GB USB drives are not that expensive retail. Can also pick them up on eBay fairly cheaply. pbl

Guest granjan Posted September 20, 2007 Posted September 20, 2007 Re: USB Stick no more detected Have you added any new usb devices since the last time you used usb stick? If so, it might just be a usb power overload. That happened to me when I added a usb external hard drive. Just unplug something and try the stick again. Worth a try before you buy a new one.
