Boot to Recovery Console. 2 . type the following commands cd system32 [enter] ren winlogon.exe winlogon.old ren msgina.dll msgina.old ren shell32.dll shell32.old ren shlwapi.dll shlwapi.old cd.. [enter] cd servicepackfiles\i386 [enter] copy MSGINA.DLL c:\windows\system32 copy SHELL32.DLL c:\windows\system32 copy WINLOGON.EXE c:\windows\system32 copy shlwapi.dll c:\windows\system32 if not there, expand from the cd 3 Type EXIT and hit enter "lamedolphin" wrote: > Please help anybody! > My laptop crashed yesterday. and it want open windows. > It is askink for msgina.dll and to notify administrator, asking for restart > adn this again and again. > Copied the file on a disk from my big computer, but how can I feed it in now? > Can`t fin also no feature to make a start up copy to try this. > Have the original WinXP CD but it doesn`t work either. > Pleas help somebody > Thank you > Ursula
Guest Daave Posted September 20, 2007 Posted September 20, 2007 Re: Windows XP Crash Additionally, Ursula, you need to make sure you boot off the CD. You should access your BIOS setup *before* the PC attempts to boot off your hard drive, then configure it to boot off the CD, then you should be fine. See http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/bios_manufacturer.htm for how to do this. At this point, you should be able to use the Recovery Console from your installation CD. (Do you have an installation CD? Or is it a different type of "WinXP CD"?) WindowsXPert wrote: > 1. Guest WindowsXPert Posted September 21, 2007 Posted September 21, 2007 Re: Windows XP Crash I'm pretty sure that article takes you through a process similar (if not identical) to the one in my earlier post. By the way, the command you were having a problem with earlier --is REN (R-E-N) *not* REM (R-E-M). In a batch file, "REM" means "Remark" and the command processor ignores everything which follows until the next [ENTER] character appears. REN (R-E-N) is short for RENAME, which you can type all the way out, if you wish. Hope this helps. Sam French "Daave" wrote: > We overlooked something! Guest lamedolphin Posted September 21, 2007 Posted September 21, 2007 Re: Windows XP Crash You are both too kind to help me out, thanks a lot!!! I tried the article too, no help. I wrote the ren thing right in the console and the names are changed. Puter couldn't find the msgina.dll but the others. then I tried to go in from windows, but without the proper msgina no way. so I tried to go to D:\ but puter went to D and right back to C:\. Tried every letter to see, if its there (CD-ROM) but it told me no disk to find there (it WAS in the player). How can I find the CD on console?
