automatic shut down

 

hi

 

It just states "security shut down in 60 seconds" this happened 1 week after installing

an anti virus software, could this be linked?

 

DELL P4 TOWER PC DESKTOP

 

windows xp

 

512 mb

 

40gb hard drive

The "Anti-Virus" software wouldn't happen to be XP Anti Virus 2009 would it Catrina?

The two most likely reasons for the error you state are an incorrectly started service and due to a Malware infection. As the former reason is very rarely seen now, there is a possibility that the error is caused more because of an infection.

 

1. Click on Start.

2. Select Run....

3. In the Open: box, type in shutdown -a.

 

Does the timer stop? Are you able to operate your computer now? If you are, then please wait and someone more experienced in the "Malware Removal" field will come along and assist you. Hope that helps. :)

Hi,

 

I have seen this many times before and each time is usually is something different which is causing the problem.

 

The most common issue however, was a Blaster Virus and was very popular in 2003/2004... You could try the link below, which has instructions on how to try and fix the problem.

 

You might be better printing the instructions out and bookmarking the link if you are using said machine.
