Guest nymets Posted September 20, 2007 Posted September 20, 2007 How can I keep Windows Firewall on AND allow a second computer access to a share I create on the firewalled computer? When I turn off the firewall, the share works fine. Once I turn it on, the share is disconnected. I'm using the share as a location for a backup image of the second computer.
Guest FrankChin Posted September 20, 2007 Posted September 20, 2007 RE: Firewall A firewall works like a lock on a door. You'll have to provide a way of gaining entry. In all cases, you'll have to tell the firewall the "IP address" of the other computer, or computers that needs access, and it'll allow it. Did you do that?? By turning the forewall off, you're keeping the door unlocked. Guest nymets Posted September 20, 2007 Posted September 20, 2007 RE: Firewall My problem is that the laptop with the firewall is part of a domain (work laptop) so I can't use the Network Setup Wizard. How can I create an Exception within Windows Firewall for the IP address of the other computer? I can't seem to figure this out. Simply enable the Windows Firewall's built-in exception for File and Print Sharing. -- Bruce Chambers Help us help you: http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety. -Benjamin Franklin Many people would rather die than think; in fact, most do. -Bertrand Russell
