how can i connect remote desktop to an xp pro machine from a library pc that is windows 2000? the network is set up so i cannot install programs and it will not run .exe files. logmein.com takes ages to load up and fails to connect 95% of the time on the library computers (fine on mine, i think they wont install the java applet). i remember reading about setting up a webpage to go to that will connect to the remote pc. is this possible or is there a better way?

thanks, jamie

Well, the web page will have to have some sort of embedded object, usually a Java applet. Since it fails to connect so often, it is very likely the computers are behind both a router and a proxy. This makes connecting to anything apart from websites very difficult. As in, if you had a web page with a Java applet that connected to your machine, it would fail because it would never be allowed to connect as it is a port/service other than HTTP (web pages).

I'll look for a solution but it's probably going to be a complex one!

thanks alot Jamey, but 'above basic' is where i am at. Is there any way i can do it, webpage or not? Is there any way i can run an .exe program on a restricted network (dont have command prompt) as tight vnc works well for me but it is a .exe program and the library will not run it. There must be some way i can do it, ater all i am not trying to do anything sinister here with their network, i just want to view my home pc

Try creating a text filetodo what you want then change the extension to .bat.

Ie-

create test.txt , open it with notepad and enter

cmd

Now change the file name to test.bat and click on it - a dos box.
