Guest USGrant Posted September 20, 2007 Posted September 20, 2007 About a week ago, I noticed that I had no sound. Videos would play but no sound. External speakers checked out ok. No sound at either outlet on the 'puter. I had moved some hard drives around and thought that might be the problem. Volume control from the keyboard seemed fine, nothing was muted. I ran virus scans and spyware scans. All drives were "working properly" and engaged. Music from files and DVD played without sound. I read dozens of pages of troubleshooting. Opened Device Manager a hundred times; checked every driver, used upteen free driver scan programs (I have 1600 bad or outdated drivers); downloaded and installed ac3Filter; rolled back wmp11 to 10 and reinstalled 11; all to naught! Today I opened Robert Cowart's 20 pound XP book. He more or less says that there are too many possible causes to list in this 9000 page book. Then, the little icon on the task bar came up. I accidently opened it and saw that the WAV option had been muted, all else was fine. How that pupply got muted is beyond me. If you listen closely, you can probably hear how well my system is playing right now. :) USGrant
