Guest George Posted September 20, 2007 Posted September 20, 2007 Evidently I have an old version of Itunes (4.2.0.74) which came with my computer purchased three years ago. I am being prompted to download an updated version of the program which I can't seem to do properly. What is the function of Itunes? If I uninstall it, will I notice any change in my day to day system operation? I rarely use the audio on my computer - keep it turned off except for the occasional holiday e-mail. Any basic help to understand what Itunes is all about appreciated. -- George XP Home Edition SP2

It came bundled with Apple QuickTime. If you don't have an iPod you can safely remove it.

You can read about iTunes here: http://www.apple.com/itunes/overview/ If you don't use iTunes, then just uninstall it. If you ever want it again you can always install the latest version. http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ Malke -- Elephant Boy Computers http://www.elephantboycomputers.com "Don't Panic!" Guest George Posted September 21, 2007 Posted September 21, 2007 Re: Itunes - What is it's function? Hello Ron, Believe it or not, I did google iTunes and read the information at the various sites also scanned through the questions and answers pertaining to iTunes. None of them answered my concern - i.e. that uninstalling iTunes might adversely affect the smooth operation of my computer. I thought that since iTunes had come loaded on my computer that it might be somehow integrated into the XP system. In any event, the answers/comments of this forum have given me the confidence to uninstall without consequent problems. Many thanks to you, "Fuzzy Logic" "Malke" and "Uncle Grumpy" for the good advice. -- George XP Home Edition SP2 "Ron Badour" wrote: > Go to google.com and search on: what is itunes and you would find > information such as: > http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&pwst=1&defl=en&q=define:ITunes&sa=X&oi=glossary_definition&ct=title > > -- > Regards > > Ron Badour > MS MVP 1997 - 2007 > > > "George" <George@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message > news:B15411A2-4F65-41E9-95B8-5851342210B9@microsoft.com... > > Evidently I have an old version of Itunes (4.2.0.74) which came with my > > computer purchased three years ago.
