Guest Linx Posted September 20, 2007 Posted September 20, 2007 I've seen some replies on this, but I'd just like to have some points clarified. I intend to upgrade the mobo and other associated components on my PC thats running XP SP2. However, I only have a CD with SP1a (its about 3.5 years old), so I can't run the procedure detailed in KB 824125 without the "windows cannot continue with this process..." message appearing when I have to prepare the HDD for transfer onto the new machine. Should I run one of the so-called slipstreaming processes? I'd prefer not to lose all my currently installed programs out of the registry (a lot of games and other software) in the process. Any help would be much appreciated.

Slipstream and burn a new CD with SP2. Perform you hardware upgrade. Before booting into Windows - boot with and perform a repair install with your newly burned Windows XP w/SP2 integrated CD. -- Shenan Stanley MS-MVP -- How To Ask Questions The Smart Way http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html
Guest Linx Posted September 20, 2007 Posted September 20, 2007 Re: Upgrading motherboard Cheers. So running the upgrade/repair procedures detailed in the KB dont affect the registry status of all my installed programs?
