Guest matlaw Posted September 21, 2007 Posted September 21, 2007 hello all, several problems i'm experiencing. for starters, this computer is running multiple accounts, each account seems different in a bad way. one account is utterly perfect while the rest suffer from odd disorders. they are varied but all but that one account share the same problems. 1. starting up IE7 takes you to the runonce which shows nothing but a blue screen because the page has an "error" as it says on the bottom left of the window where the status bar is. 2. flash is disabled and any attempts at reinstalling it were unsuccessful. I uninstalled and reinstalled it from the perfect account but the other accounts are almost "isolated" or something in that the change doesn't affect them... 3. There's an icon in my start menu for a "Microsoft Update". Clicking this or manually trying to get to MU causes a blank page with "done" or "error" written on the bottom left where the status bar is. How separated are the settings for each user account? Clearly something is going on here because one account is perfect, while the others don't share the same level of perfection and are sort of "isolated" as I mentioned before.

The IE7 settings are mostly user-level. By the way, you did not say which version of Windows XP you have installed. If the account is a limited user Microsoft Update will not work and should give an error message telling you to log in as an administrator . Try cross-posting to microsoft.public.internetexplorer.general for more help with that "runonce" nuisance. Go to Tools|Internet Options and check your browser settings for the different accounts.
Guest matlaw Posted September 21, 2007 Posted September 21, 2007 Re: IE7 problems...... Hello! I did check each and every account and I even bombed the settings by setting them all to low but to no avail! i'm running service pack 2, windows xp home. i think the IE7 installation is botched. everytime i try to get into service.msc, it gives me a script error and i can't proceed. i think it has to do with scripts. I can't install flash because the flash installation page can't load something that makes the install now button pop up. maybe i got a bad installation if IE7? What do you think my chances are on that?

If that doesn't fix it, save the part between the lines below and paste into Notepad. Save as Runonce.reg ---------------------Runonce.reg-------------------- Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main] "RunOnceHasShown"=dword:00000001 "RunOnceComplete"=dword:00000001 ----------------------------------------------------- Right click Runonce.reg and choose Merge. To change all Windows users at once use ---------------------Runonce2.reg-------------------- Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main] "RunOnceHasShown"=dword:00000001 "RunOnceComplete"=dword:00000001 ----------------------------------------------------- -- Frank Saunders, MS-MVP OE/WM Do not send mail.

Have you cleared the browser cache in Tools|Internet Options|Browsing History|Delete|Temporary Internet Files ? You have to do this for every account .
