removing the "downloading" software

on both Win XP and Vista, sometimes I install some software and then

all of a sudden, my IE will invoke a weird download plug in. So now,

when I download other stuff, like a zip file, that annoying download

program will pop up, and usually eat up a lot of resource.

I tried go to Tools -> Manage Add-ons

and then disabled a bunch of unknown or unwanted add-ons, but IE is

still behaving the same way. Is there a method to remove the

downloading app? (without uninstalling my other programs... as till

now, which program caused it, i can't remember)

Hi,

Maybe start from: Download Autoruns from MS:

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/ProcessesAndThreads/Autoruns.mspx

When you run it in Internet Expolorer tab you will have some information

about installed IE plugins e.g. paths (ImagePath).
