bigshak Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 ok my pc is restarting itself say after an hour or so and i took this image for you for a better understanding of the problem.. it only started happening 2 days or so ago, i put some memory in and thought maybe thats why but i also picked up a virus or two so im quite lost pls help Quote
Guest Wolfeymole Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 Remove the newly installed memory and see if it reboots ok, if it does then you may have the wrong type of memory for that board. Quote
bigshak Posted October 26, 2008 Author Posted October 26, 2008 i have removed the memory i installed just 10 mins ago and its just weird because its the same memory i bought last time and that gave me no problems Quote
Guest Wolfeymole Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 Does it boot up ok without errors now though Bigshak? Quote
bigshak Posted October 26, 2008 Author Posted October 26, 2008 when it booted up it said something about the 'firmware has recognised memory un-installed or something like that Quote
Guest Wolfeymole Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 Ok but does it boot back into windows without issue now? Quote
bigshak Posted October 26, 2008 Author Posted October 26, 2008 there was one thing when i took the memory out though and switched it back on the pc was making 3 beep sounds and i could not see it on the monitor..so i switched it off from the back and opened it back up and moved the memory over and it was ok when i swithced it back on Quote
Guest Wolfeymole Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 Moved the memory over? How many RAM slots do you have? What exactly was the old memory and what was the new memory that you acquired? Please be exact. Quote
bigshak Posted October 26, 2008 Author Posted October 26, 2008 i have 4 slots i originally had 2 samsung 256mb factory fitted...then a few months ago i put it a single 512mb from play.com no problems with that. and a few days ago i ordered the exact same 512mb from play.com again and been having problems ever since Quote
Guest Wolfeymole Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 Well I doubt it's the board not holding still for 1GB of RAM so I reckon the stick that you bought recently is faulty. Did you you put the sticks in slots 1 and 3 or 1 and 2 as 1 and 3 should be the correct method? Quote
bigshak Posted October 26, 2008 Author Posted October 26, 2008 all i know is the 2 256 mb are next to each other and the 512mb is on its own i have no idea which slots are which :( Quote
Guest Wolfeymole Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 Do your slots resemble these in this pic, the colour of yours are irrelevant. http://www.virtual-hideout.net/reviews/ASRock_ALiveNF6G-DVI/images/10.JPG Or do they look like this? http://www.cybergooch.com/tutorials/images/buildsystem/IMG_6797.jpg Quote
bigshak Posted October 27, 2008 Author Posted October 27, 2008 they look like the first ones you posted Quote
Guest Wolfeymole Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 So when you got the original 512 did you remove the 2 x 256 sticks? Before you got the new 512 did you have the 2 x 256 and the original 512 working ok? If so swap out the old 512 to the new one and see if that works, note the memory size afterwards. Can you download a system information tool called Everest from here please and then tell what the boards memory capacity is. |MG| EVEREST Free Edition 2.20 Quote
Dalo Harkin Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 as 1 and 3 should be the correct method? bigshak Posted October 27, 2008 Author Posted October 27, 2008 Memory upgrades from Crucial.com - Determine My Memory Needs before i got the new 512 the 2 256 and 1 512 were working fine, i took out 1 512 but im not sure if its the right one as it looks the same :( but so far it has not rebooted itself Quote
Guest Wolfeymole Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 Have you ran a scan from Crucial to determine what memory you have and what you need? Quote
Guest Wolfeymole Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 Right you need; Each memory slot can hold DDR PC2700,DDR PC3200 with a maximum of 1GB per slot.* *Not to exceed manufacturer supported memory. Although the memory can be installed one module at a time, the best performance comes from using matched pairs of modules. This is what you need to look for when getting new ram so for example you could have 4 x 512 @ DDR PC3200 to get 2GB Quote
