Guest tke402 Posted September 21, 2007 Posted September 21, 2007 Hi, I demoted a dc in my domain to a member server. Now the net logon service does not start. This is also causing the windows time service and other services to not start. The demotion was clean and successful and I removed all remaining service records from DNS (the server was also a DNS server with AD intergrated zones). I have also uninstalled DNS from the machine. Any ideas what is keeping net logon from starting? All the errors in the event logs are issues that trace back to the netlogon service not starting but nothing tells me what is causing the netlogon service to not start. Thanks, TKE402

Guest TKE402 Posted September 21, 2007 Posted September 21, 2007 Re: Demoted server, now no net logon service Thanks for the reply. Will doing that effect the shares (permissions) that are on the machine? Will they have to be recreated and ACL'd? Guest Meinolf Weber Posted September 21, 2007 Posted September 21, 2007 Re: Demoted server, now no net logon service Hello tke402, The permissions you can keep if you make a backup from the data and save it on another server in the domain. With NTbackup also the scurity permission will be backed up. The only thing you have to recreate is the share itself and then restore the backup.
