Guest Wolfeymole Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 Mmmm What EXACTLY does it say on the Vista disk you have Kazanne? Quote
Tootech Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 When you start your computer, and press the F8 key so that the Safe Mode options are available, can you see an option called: "Last Known Good Configuration - Your Most Recent Settings That Worked" If so, select it and if you are lucky Windows will start. kazanne Posted October 26, 2008 Author Posted October 26, 2008 Mmmm What EXACTLY does it say on the Vista disk you have Kazanne? My disc just says Windows Vista Home basic This disc contains 32-bit software only,on the box it says OEM System builder pack and there is a serial number etc.:( Quote
Guest Wolfeymole Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 Please bear with us while TooTech and I debate this problem Kazanne. Quote
Tootech Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 Hi kazanne, The disc you have I believe is a standard Vista disc, that means you can use the recovery & repair options it has built in. You will have to put the disc in your drive, and boot your computer. Hopefully it will boot straight from the DVD, not your hard drive (if not, come back for more info). Have a look here Vista & the Recovery Console - Ecademy The article talks you through the Vista DVD startup process - it's probably a good idea to print it out, or have it next to you on another PC while you work. When you get it going, it is option 2 that you want - System Restore, follow the instructions to restore you PC to a point you know worked. Let us know how you get on. Quote
kazanne Posted October 26, 2008 Author Posted October 26, 2008 Hi TooTech, have tried booting it up with the disc in,it just comes up with 'windows error recovery'and I'm not sure where to go from there,I will also take a look at the link you sent, thanks so much Quote
Guest Wolfeymole Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 Do you know how to change the settings in the bios to boot from the cd? Read this and it will give you detailed instructions how to do so. Windows Vista Ultimate - System Restore from CD or DVD Quote
kazanne Posted October 26, 2008 Author Posted October 26, 2008 OMG,I have been into bios & enabled the dvd rom drive,it is now reading the installation disc & is now doing the repair, thankyou so much guys, hopefully this will not take too long & it will be up & running again,I wouldn't have been able to do that without you,so thanks so much. Tootech Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 Did you do a Repair or System Restore? If you didn't try System Restore, can you reboot to the DVD, and run it, restore to a point before the problems started. Quote

If you didn't try System Restore, can you reboot to the DVD, and run it, restore to a point before the problems started. Restore failed due to an unspecified error, the file cannot be opened transactionally because it's identity depends on the outcome of an unresolved transaction ( 0x80071AA7),so I seem to still have a problem.;) Quote
kazanne Posted October 26, 2008 Author Posted October 26, 2008 Would it pay me to just reinstall windows Vista from my disc? Quote
Guest Wolfeymole Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 Have a read of this Kazanne The update is not installed successfully, you receive a message, and the computer restarts when you try to install an update in Windows Vista Quote
kazanne Posted October 26, 2008 Author Posted October 26, 2008 I did have a lot of the updates not installing,so much so I didn't bother installing them for a while,as for the system restore the only option I got was the date the update was installed!! maybe that is why the resore failed, however I will carry on trying some of the links you have sent, thankyou for your patience Quote
