hcksharp Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 Hi folks, having an issue with my browsers and homepage not displaying properly in Firefox and IE7. The strange thing is that it loads in both, but content is not show, e.g. I just get a page with the background color. I can view page source in both. I can bring up other sites without any issues, as well my sub domain sites displays fine. I am at a loss as to what is going on, as I can access the site on my older pc and from the same network without any problems and all is displaying o.k. I followed your recommendations from another thread and used all the Malware tools listed, but nothing shows as having been infected. Any other course of action I can take or information I should post? Thanks for you help, Tom Quote
Tootech Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 Hi hck, What Operating System are you using? Is it just one page that will not load correctly, or lots of pages? Do you use the same security on your old & new PC's? Tootech Quote
hcksharp Posted October 26, 2008 Author Posted October 26, 2008 Tootech, thanks for the quick responce. I am using XP service pack 3 and AVG 8.0 on both machines. Windows firewall. All pages with the main domain are not loading correctly. Main domain does not load at all, or better said it loads, but only with color visible and no content. Other pages have distorted layouts and fonts. Tom Quote
Tootech Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 Are these local sites, or www sites. If they are specific www sites, can you post a link to one. Quote
hcksharp Posted October 26, 2008 Author Posted October 26, 2008 Home of Haslinger Knives is my main site. sub domains are at Chef Knife Gallery of Haslinger Knives (those load fine) Quote
Goku Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 Hello and Welcome to FPCH Sharp. :) Apparently, I too am unable to access the main site while the sub-domains work fine. I think that the problem might be with the main domain itself or perhaps in its code so it is ill adapted for other browsers. -- Goku Quote
Tootech Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 It works just fine in Opera, don't know why that shoould be?????? Quote
RandyL Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 I can get it to open properly in Opera 9.22 and FireFox2 but not IE7. This has to be a code issue on the website. Is your older PC using IE6? Guest Wolfeymole Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 On the 1st link I just get a brown screen but the second is ok, I run FF v3 Quote
hcksharp Posted October 27, 2008 Author Posted October 27, 2008 (edited) Thanks for all the feedback folks. Well it's all been working fine in IE7 and FF 3, but changed all of a sudden 3 days ago. It started with some small formatting changes and then only the page colors showing. Should also say that I have not done any updates to the sites. I doubt it's a formatting thing, as my other pc, as well as my friends pc display the site just fine. As well the subdomain used identical coding, so it should be quirky too. Wondering if uninstalling and reinstalling both IE and FF would solve the issue. Tom Edited October 27, 2008 by hcksharp Quote

Did you change anything recently, anything at all? -- Goku Quote
hcksharp Posted October 27, 2008 Author Posted October 27, 2008 no changes, besides windows updates and AVG updates. Did install a Kodak plugin for photoshop, a week or so ago, with no issues then. Quote
hcksharp Posted October 27, 2008 Author Posted October 27, 2008 more info to the above. I uninstalled IE 7 and now when I try to launch IE I get following message, please see image. http://haslinger-knives.com/images/prnitscr.jpg I am figuring I have malware someplace? Quote
Goku Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 Well, that is very strange. It could be Malware as you suspect but incorrectly configured extensions could also be the reason. What is the case with Firefox? -- Goku Quote
hcksharp Posted October 27, 2008 Author Posted October 27, 2008 have reinstalled IE7 and the Save File pop ups are gone. Still not able to look at site. FF same thing - frustrating Quote

hcksharp Posted October 28, 2008 Author Posted October 28, 2008 Thanks so much for all the feedback. Problem is mostly solved. Issue were: ISP upgraded and they ended up changing something Java plug on my end corrupt - so removed and reinstalled Minute clean up of css and html Now works in IE7 as designed. Still get some shift in the nav bar in FF3 and fonts(see image). http://www.haslinger-knives.com/images/hcknav.jpg If someone has an idea as to why I sure like to know. FF2 displays all just fine. Did a file comparison off an older version of the home page and css and layout are identical. As, well don't understand why the subdomain chef.haslinger-knives.com displays fine in FF3. Maybe something I am missing.... Again, thanks so much for the help. Tom Quote
RandyL Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 Check out W3C's validators to help look for errors. Note: If you want to validate your CSS style sheet embedded in an (X)HTML document, you should first check that the (X)HTML you use is valid. I see the (X)HTML validator brings up 16 errors.
