Guest BobT Posted September 21, 2007 Posted September 21, 2007 I was changing the refresh rate on the video adapter. NeoMagic256ZD and when it was set to the highest rate the monitor and laptop blacked out. When I rebooted it said the adapter was set up wrong. It displays as the minimum and cannot be reset to 1028x840 The drivers look ok. Is it possible there is a registry setting than has to be corrected. TIA Bob
Guest glee Posted September 22, 2007 Posted September 22, 2007 Re: Video Adapter on Dell Inspiron Laptop stopped working Restart in Safe Mode: - Start the computer and hold down the CTRL key till the Windows 98 Startup menu (boot menu) appears. OR - Repeatedly tap the F8 key after the memory count to bring up the boot menu. - Use the arrow keys to select "Safe Mode" and press Enter. In Safe Mode, open Control Panel> Display> Settings> Advanced> Monitor tab, and lower the Refresh Rate to adapter default or 60Hz, click OK. In Settings, change the screen resolution and color to one of the lower settings, click Apply/OK. Restart Windows in normal mode, and you should be able to reset your display settings. -- Glen Ventura, MS MVP Shell/User, A+ http://dts-l.org/ http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm "BobT" <anonymus@anonymus.com> wrote in message news:OgZXWHI$HHA.484@TK2MSFTNGP06.phx.gbl... >I was changing the refresh rate on the video adapter. Guest BobT Posted September 22, 2007 Posted September 22, 2007 Re: Video Adapter on Dell Inspiron Laptop stopped working Thanks for the response. I had done that already but was never given the opportunity to switch to 60mhz. What I did do was delete the hardware via the Control Panel> Display> Settings>System. When I rebooted it found the new hardware and reinstalled the needed software. The system is now fine. (I have access to the refresh rates) Bob "glee" <glee29@spamindspring.com> wrote in message news:%23VGd4SL$HHA.5980@TK2MSFTNGP04.phx.gbl... > Restart in Safe Mode: > - Start the computer and hold down the CTRL key till the Windows 98 Startup menu > (boot menu) appears. > OR > - Repeatedly tap the F8 key after the memory count to bring up the boot menu. > - Use the arrow keys to select "Safe Mode" and press Enter. > > In Safe Mode, open Control Panel> Display> Settings> Advanced> Monitor tab, and > lower the Refresh Rate to adapter default or 60Hz, click OK. Guest glee Posted September 22, 2007 Posted September 22, 2007 Re: Video Adapter on Dell Inspiron Laptop stopped working Yeah, after I posted that I realised that you probably would not be able to adjust the refresh rate in Safe Mode. Glad you figured out the reasonable alternative. -- Glen Ventura, MS MVP Shell/User, A+ http://dts-l.org/ http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm "BobT" <anonymus@anonymus.com> wrote in message news:u8Ud56L$HHA.3400@TK2MSFTNGP03.phx.gbl... > Thanks for the response. > I had done that already but was never given the opportunity to switch to > 60mhz. > What I did do was delete the hardware via the Control Panel> Display> > Settings>System. > When I rebooted it found the new hardware and reinstalled the needed > software.
