Performance hit with large number of small files

A directory containing 100,000 images: I right-click | Copy and it

takes minutes to respond. To actually copy them is exceedingly

painful. But I can move single large files of the euqivalent total

size around easily.

What are some things that I might look into in improving this

performance?

Thanks!

Put them into subfolders of around 5,000 files per folder.

Yes I have resigned to that option unless someone can show me a trick

(tried turning off indexing, antivirus, cannot figure out how to turn

off active desktop).

Make sure any MS Office install you have does NOT have

FastFind running.
