hi Guys - hope you're all well.

for the life of me I cannot install ( or get to work ) a brand new canon pixma MP210 on Windows Vista.

I have another printer installed on the PC but it doesnt seem to be recognising the Canon. I have uninstalled the printer and drivers several times, and tried re installing ( had to download the drivers as I lost the CD! ) using different methods 9 ie running the CD setup exe Adding a new printer and locating the drivers manually etc... tried updating the driver too .

When I install the priner by adding new printer, it shows the printer in the printer folder but i dont think the USB port is being recognised....

A note comes with the printer saying that there are issues with Vista ( finding the printer via USB ) and advises to swithch USB ports. Tried every port on the PC.

It also says that the PC should recognise the printer and install the driver auto. - I wish!

Any ideas good people?

:)

Hello Spartan

I have a Canon Pixma MP460 on Vista and I had no problems at all installing it.

Did you get the download from Canon?

Uninstall any vestiges of any printers on the pc totally.

Install the printer driver and it should then ask you to plug in the USB at a given point.

Hi mate - hope you're well!

Well I didnt uninstall the Xerox printer or driver - should I?

Will it not be possible to have both printers installed?

Well in theory it should but you never mentioned a Xerox printer, if you have the driver for the Xerox just install that later when you have got the Canon installed.

Meanwhile uninstall all printer stuff, printer drivers are evil things.

Its not asking me to put the usb in.

At the end of the install it asks me if i want to select the port manually, and if i click yes, it doesnt list the USB port. So i click on finish ( complete installation )

Yes i downloaded the file ( twice - thought i downloaded the wrong one ) from Canon. That was a mission in itself!

From the README notes in the driver folder

- some USB hubs may experience problems with MP drivers ( NO S**T!? )

if this happens, connect the device directly to the USB port on the PC ( where else do they think i would put it exactly??? ....anyway tried that too ) or change the USB port that the device is connected to ( Tried that too! )

I think im going to bang my head against the wall a few times.

Why did you try to choose the port manually. It should be automatic?

Remove any printers from the control panel and try again. Reboot just to make sure. Remove the usb cable before rebooting. Next time click no when it asks you if you want to select a port manually.

SORTED!

I thought I'd try a different USB Cable which worked. Strange because I took the one i was using out of the other printer... Oh well.

It all seems OK now guys - thanks loads. :)
