Re: System Alert that keeps appearing in corner of screen

Please can someone help us here as we are not really technically minded with

computers. I know my way arounds roughly. We have a problem with a message

that will not go away no matter what I seem to do. It says that we ahve too

many anti virus/security programs running at the same time which we dont. We

did have a trojan downloader attack us last night and everything went mad for

a while but I downloaded Panda Titanium Antivirus 2005 as we had previousl

used anothe Panda Security and it worked great. This one is working grewat to

as it has already removed loads of crap for us. However the alert is still in

the corner and I'm not sure if the trojan downloader is gone or not.

Please can you advise.

Thanks,

Jane and PETE.

It sounds like the system alert is coming from malware. Since you didn't

mention the name of the trojan or give details, please go through the

following removal steps:

Do the preparatory steps here:

http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Removing_Malware

Then do the specific removal steps here:

http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Smitfraud_Trojan -

Smitfraud, Spyaxe, Spyfalcon

You can also check to see if there are targeted removal steps for your

malware here:

Bleeping Computer removal how-to's -

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/forum55.html

When all else fails, run HijackThis and post your log in one of the

specialty forums listed at the first link above (not here, please).

Standard caveat: If the procedures look too complex - and there is no

shame in admitting this isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a

professional computer repair shop (not your local version of

BigComputerStore/GeekSquad). Please be aware that not all local shops

are skilled at removing malware and even if they are, your computer may

be so infested that Windows will need to be clean-installed. Have all

your data backed up before you take the machine into a shop.

If you have a Vundo infection instead of Smitfraud variant (and again, I

can't tell because you didn't give more details) follow all the rest of

the above instructions except the specific removal steps. Instead, do:

Then do the specific removal steps here:

Remove the older version of Panda Security from the Control Panel,

Add/Remove Programs.
