I just installed XP PRO on my machine. I try to install office 2003. Then, it

auto plays. It says it can't find a certain file. I try to open it again and

it is completely gone from "My Computer". I don't know what the file is

called because it will not let me open setup anymore. Neither will it let me

open the CD drive. The only way it will let me take the CD out is if I turn

the computer off and turn it back on again. It also says that the disc is

currupt and isn't able to be used, but it will work on my other machine.

Office 2003 is the only disc that will do that. What do I do???

Are you machines networked? If so, try sharing the CD drive on which it

works, and installing across your LAN.

No, they are not networked.

Re: Office 2003

Make a copy of the CD using the system which has working CD drive and

then try the copied CD on your "faulty" system to see if it makes any

difference. If this doesn't work then you will need to buy an external

USB CD/DVD drive ($25) or change the CD drive of the system which seems

to be faulty!

It is always a good idea to make backup copies of CDs and use them to

install software packages to avoid damage to original CDs/DVDs! I

always make copies of CDs and it works for me just fine!

As an alternative, try copying (just dragging and dropping in Explorer) the

files from the CD on a USB memory stick, and install from that. AFAIK

there's no dumb CD copy protection on the Office 2003 media.

My machine is older and does not have a USB port.

Re: Office 2003

That would be pirating Office 2003 wouldn't it.

Re: Office 2003

No Pirating is INSTALLING more copies of the software than the licensing

permits.

Re: Office 2003

Would it be okay to make a copy of the CD now for back up purposes or would

it be too late?
