Guest darkrats Posted September 22, 2007 Posted September 22, 2007 I have disabled the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer using the command "regsvr32 /u shimgvw" and installed ACDSee as my default image viewer. However, a reference to the MS program still shows up in the "Open with....." right-click menu. Does anyone know, short of hunting through the Registry, to remove this unwanted item? Maybe this function is part of a tweaking utility someone has come across. There's nothing in TweakUI. Thanks.

I used it a long time ago to clean things up. http://windowsxp.mvps.org/context_folders.htm#Directories It will reduce the "hunt" time.
Guest darkrats Posted September 22, 2007 Posted September 22, 2007 Re: "Open with . . ." Menu I am familiar with the Registry locations mentioned on that website, but looking there I found no references to Windows Picture and Fax Viewer. Only ACDSee is there. Disabling the former probably removed the entries, but for some reason the right-click name remains.
