Window size

I seem to be having a problem with the size of some of the

"windows" (don't know if this is the right term) that pop up when for

example I click on Print and Properties.

The right side border (non-adjustable) has moved to the left and is

hiding some of the button options, etc. This is only happening on

some

"windows" and occassionally the bottom end is cut off as well.

Sorry if I used the wrong terminology but I hope that someone can

figure out what I'm trying to explain and help me fix this.

I did some searching in this group for a similar problem but couldn't

seem to find anything. Perhaps its because of my lack of knowing what

terminology to look for.

Sounds like your screen resolution has somehow changed. Change the display

setting to 800 x 600 and see if that helps. This change can be done via Control

Panel > Display > Settings.

If that's not it, check to see if any of the Accessibility features are in

force.

Open Display Properties, Settings tab, Advanced button. Change the DPI

setting to "Normal size (96 dpi)". Then if you want to increase the

size of the fonts, in the browser, or newsreader, try clicking View,

Text Size, or a similar combination. To increase the size of all text,

you can:

- Lower the screen resolution. Open Display Properties, Settings tab,

slide the Screen resolution control to the left.

- Open Display Properties, Appearance tab, change the Font size to

"Large Fonts".

- Open Display Properties, Appearance tab, Advanced button, click

specific windows in the display, or select specific items in the "Item:"

list, and change the font size there.

Tried that..... it works fine for changing the size of the font, etc.

but part of the window is still hidden. This wouldn't by chance be

some sort of virus??

The 125% DPI setting usually causes the font to overflow in fixed window

sizes. It's possible that some accessibility settings could also cause

this. You'll probably have to tweak some of your settings till you get

everything to fit. I doubt seriously it's a malware problem; it's just

that some notification windows don't allow for all font adjustments.

OK, I'll keep trying to play with the settings until I find the one

the works. I did originally start with 110% DPI, set it back to Normal

96% that didn't make it any better but all my fonts got extremely

small. When I tried to move the slider in the Screen Resolution it is

either 1024x768 or else it goes to the other extreme of 800x600. There

are no other choices. Is this normal.

That's up to your graphics card. There should probably be a 640x480

too. There may not be any more. If you update the graphics card

drivers, you may have more resolutions, but that won't help with your

problem.

Joe, you were correct. When I set the DPI to 105 and rebooted the

computer then everything went back to normal. Only problem now is that

the text, especially the WorkSheet tabs in Excel seem to be extremely

small. I tried changing the resolution again, back to 800x600 but then

everything gets too big and takes up too much space on the

monitor....... I'm not quite that blind yet! I'll try and search for

an update for my graphics card driver. Thanks.
