Guest bullant Posted September 23, 2007 Posted September 23, 2007 Event Viewer error message: Quote: The run-time environment has detected an inconsistency in its internal state. This indicates a potential instability in the process that could be caused by the custom components running in the COM+ application, the components they make use of, or other factors. Error in d:\qxp_slp\com\com1x\src\comsvcs\txprop\dtcinfo.cpp(158), hr = 8000ffff: TransactionManager->GetWhereaboutsSize For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp. Source: COM+ Category: Unknown Event ID: 4689 Type: Error date: 18sep07 Unquote Help & Support Center found five KnowledgeBase articles, but nothing I could identify as appropriate for my setup. I'm a Dell Latitude D600 laptop, in standalone configuration, using XPHomeSP2. Another COM+ related error message also registered, as follows: Quote: An empty CRM log file was detected. It has been re-initialized. If this warning appears when the CRM log file is being initially created then no further action is required. Server Application ID: {02D4B3F1-FD88-11D1-960D-00805FC79235} Server Application Instance ID: {FE8F907D-7852-4762-85F6-37BE47D56710} Server Application Name: System Application Comsvcs.dll file version: ENU 2001.12.4414.308 shp For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp. Source: COM+ Category: (105) Event ID: 4444 Unquote There was another error message related to MS DTC, as follows: Quote: The account that the MS DTC service is running under is invalid. This can happen if the service account information has been changed using the Services snap-in in Microsoft Management Console (MMC). MS DTC service will continue to start. Please make sure that the MS DTC service account information is updated using the Component Services Explorer. For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp. Source: MSDTC Category: SVC Event ID: 4437 Unquote The next activity in the Event Viewer also related to MS DTC, but as an Information item, as follows: Quote: MS DTC started with the following settings: Security Configuration (OFF = 0 and ON = 1): Network Administration of Transactions = 0, Network Clients = 0, Inbound Distributed Transactions using Native MSDTC Protocol = 0, Outbound Distributed Transactions using Native MSDTC Protocol = 0, Transaction Internet Protocol (TIP) = 0, XA Transactions = 0 For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp. Unquote I haven't made any changes to anything recently, other than install Norton Internet Security 2007 and close down Spyware Doctor. Yes, I have Windows Defender. Today I went into Computer Management, Services and checked to see if the COM+ System Application service was ok. It was stopped (not by me!), so set startup to Automatic and re-started the service; all okay now. I had also noticed that the Symantec NIS2007 had installed a COM Host Aggregation Service, set to Manual. I wonder if this had anything to do with these error messages occurring? Since 18sep, these error messages have not reappeared in Event Viewer. Is there anything else I should do, please? -- bullant

Guest bullant Posted September 23, 2007 Posted September 23, 2007 RE: EventID 4689, 4444, 4437 Thanks Rey for the link. I'm much happier having it set to automatic. Any suggestions re the MS DTC ... ? The service is set to what it should be. Just an observation, since I bought this computer in mid-2005 I was not aware that any services set to Manual had to be started by me before they could work. My understanding was/is that as they are needed they start themselves, and some stop themselves when they have finished doing what they need to. Have not had any problems in this regard. -- bullant "Rey Santos" wrote: > The default setting for COM + System Application service is Manual > Default settings for services > http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/sys_srv_default_settings.mspx?mfr=true > -- > Rey > > > "bullant" wrote: > > > Event Viewer error message: > > > > Quote: > > The run-time environment has detected an inconsistency in its internal > > state. Guest davy Posted September 23, 2007 Posted September 23, 2007 Re: EventID 4689, 4444, 4437 Have you tried doing a system restore in Help and Support on the start menu, rolling back to a earlier date to when everything was ok, if need be you can undo this restore point and revert back to the original date should you feel you should need do. If possible try going back prior to installing NIS2007 NOTE: When going back to an earlier date you will have to apply any updates that you are rolling back.. ie Antivirus etc. Davy
