run-time error '5'

Receive this error message when starting up xp. I cannot anything other than

this message ie. no icons or access to programs. The only thing i can get is

the task manager.

Something you have starting up with Windows is causing the problem.

Since you can get Task Manager, do New Task>msconfig. Then do clean-boot

troubleshooting with that utility so you can find the culprit. And of

course, you should always ask yourself The First Question Of

Troubleshooting: what changed between the time things worked and the

time they didn't?
