Guest Don J Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 Tell me if there is a better newsgroup to post this in! I am using Windows XP with PartitionMagic 8.0. All of a sudden PartitionMagic showed one of my drives in yellow and marked it as "BAD". It didn't show any of the 4 partitions on the drive. Right clicking the drive, in PartitionMagic, the only commands were "Format" and "Set Active" under "Advanced". Operation under Windows XP was entrirely normal. The 4 partitions showed up in Windows Explorer. I moved all files out of the four partitions, saving them on other hard disks. Once the files were moved out I formatted the individual partittions from Windows Explorer. An inspection of the formatted partitions showed that it had been done correctly. I then activated PartitionMagic, highlighted the yellow partition and selected Format. It rebooted to do the format. Itr terminated in the middle of the format with the statement "Error 4 Bad Argument/Parameter". When Windows XP was restarted nothing had changed. I've reinstalled PartitionMagiic, and repeated the formating of the yelow diisk several tmes, always with the same result. I've been using PartitionMagic for several years now and was dissappoited to find that PartitionMagic 8.0 is the most recent edition. Partition Magic is a Symantec product - you would go to their FAQs and such for support with their product. As everything is working properly within Windows XP - by what you state - then the problem is not a Windows XP one - but a partition magic one. -- Shenan Stanley MS-MVP -- How To Ask Questions The Smart Way http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html
Guest Don J Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 Re: PartitionMagic doesn't work! The yellow hard disk showing in PartitionMagic is an externel drive. I turned the power to the disk off and of course the yellow drive disappeared from PartitionMagic. When I turned the power back on it reappeared. I was back to where I was before!
