Guest Wolfeymole Posted October 31, 2008 Posted October 31, 2008 I remember when I got my first Video Recorder with a wired Remote Control. It was a Mitsubishi and cost me £500($1000) , it was a top loader and I loved it. VHS tapes were £14 for a 3 hour blank What experiences have you had of old technology? Quote
Seth Posted October 31, 2008 Posted October 31, 2008 What experiences have you had of old technology? Too many with my wife:D I used to have a Sony Beta and liked it much more than VHS. My first TV Remote had for 4 large silver buttons that clicked very loudly. I think it worked off sound instead an infrared or radio signal:) Quote Need help with your computer problems? Guest Wolfeymole Posted October 31, 2008 Posted October 31, 2008 Blame Sony Seth as they would not license Betamax to other cats. They learned however with the advent of the PS series. Quote
Seth Posted October 31, 2008 Posted October 31, 2008 I remember another TV "remote" that was of the wired variety. It had about 60 buttons on it that represented each channel. Along side each button was a dial to fine tune the frequency. I played with all those buttons and dials for hours. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. allheart55 Posted October 31, 2008 Posted October 31, 2008 I remember the original A/B switch when cable television first came out. It looked like a sideways on/off light switch. A was for VHF channels and B was for UHF channels. Quote

RandyL Posted November 1, 2008 Posted November 1, 2008 Seth I think those old TV remotes used the cutting edge technology called tuning forks. LOL I had one of those too. Plastic Nev Posted November 1, 2008 Posted November 1, 2008 How old do we want to go? I have a still working all valved Eddystone general coverage receiver. It will receive radio signals from 450 Kc/s (KHZ) right up to 32Mc/s (MHZ) in four bands. For resolving side band and Morse transmissions it has a BFO or beat frequency oscillator. I also have a Philips ,long wave, medium wave and VHF FM receiver, again still working and built for the domestic market, and again all valves. None of these silly fiddly transistor three legged fuses. But the real technology is the Yeasu 7B five band short wave transeiver, plus a yeasu 250 R 2 meter transeiver, and one or two other home built odds and sods as well, no point in having the G4TMY after my name without the gear to go with it. Oh and my last TV was so old the remote control was my pool or snooker cue to push in the buttons on the front.:D Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. mike Posted November 1, 2008 Posted November 1, 2008 I'm afraid I am too young to remember most of the stuff mentioned above.. :P However, the oldest technology I owned was a 386 Computer with a 5¼-inch Floppy Disk Drive! :) - REAL floppy disk's - Does anyone remember the computer game Dizzy? I had a copy on several floppy disk and entertained me for hours :P Quote Need computer support? Then why not join Free PC Help. Dalo Harkin Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 This is an Oric http://www.old-computers.com/MUSEUM/photos/oric_nova64_1.jpg And cant find a pick of frog hopper, the graphics were shocking - you were a frog and you had to move past cars and logs and onto the 'safe' side - it was awesome! BeeCeeBee Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 Oh sort of like a comodore 64 in the States maybe here too. I do remember frog hopper and either had it on my comodore or played it with my kids on an atari or in an arcade. I actually thought you were talking about a Vacuum cleaner (hoover) I think there is one called an Oric put couldn't put it together with a frog hopper.
