As the day approaches November 11 I thought I would add this link. Bookmark it and play it November 11 or on the day you observe a similar tribute in your country.

In tribute to all the defenders of freedom everywhere.

That is a beautiful song and is a splendid tribute to those who have fought for our freedom.

As I play cornet in a local brass band, I also will be taking part in a remembrance march on Sunday 9th November.

For those interested in brass band music, my band-

We will be taking part in a parade to the church for a remembrance service, then a short march to the cenotaph for the laying of the wreath, accompanied by one of our members playing the last post and reveille.

Thanks ever so much for that link,RandyL. It's enough to make me weep - but then I do each Remembrance Day. I silently cry for all the young that are now old - for all those who were young and never got to become old because they gave up their lives for our freedom. For those that still have to fight because our world has never truly known peace and good will to all mankind. Huge sigh.

And Plastic Nev, which one are in in the photo, please? Brass bands, Scottish Bag Pipes or simply people standing at their local cenotaph - all wonderful.

THANK YOU RANDY!!!

You should know that I appreciate your well reasoned political views and now the sentiment that lies behind them.

I will share a few thoughts if you do not mind.

Current events coupled with a very very moving Irish Ballad that you supplied has touched a nerve with me.

I never beleived in the Vietnam War. I opposed it completely. But I also had and have friends who fought there and some who died there. I was appalled then by the treatment these boys received when they came home. The disrespect and the abuse.

Now I live very near to Shannon Airport where our troops deplane on their way to and from Iraq. I spend time with them in the lounge and smoking area and try never to forget to thank them and ask them to stay safe.

I am also aware of the level of virulent protest that meets them here by a very vocal minority.

If you have read any of my other posts on politcs you will know that I don't think very highly of this war we are waging so badly. But --- these are our kids, they are worthy of and and wanting of our support and should have it. I can see no evil there.

So please when we follow Randy's advice on Nov 11. lets remember them for what they sacrificed and not be influenced by political views.

John McCain just lost an election and would never have had my vote. But he is a hero to me!!

So yes, never forget!!!

I agree completely! I respect and weep for the soldiers, not cheer for the war.

Never understood Vietnam hell either and don't like this one. What in poop were our leaders thinking! Maybe we should go back to the 'good old days' when Country's leaders lead the fight - physically and in person. Perhaps it would make them think long and hard if it's their own lives at stake.

I have just got home from a very long day out in honour of those who gave everything in the first and second world wars, and including other wars up to the present day. We, the band that is, have done two remembrance parades today. The first started at 9-00AM and was for the Helmshore British Legion branch, and consisted of a march playing normal march tunes, to the local church for a remembrance service. This was followed by a short march to the cenotaph for the usual laying of wreaths followed by the last post and two minutes silence, ended by the playing of reveille. After a buffet at the local British Legion club, a mad dash over to Earby for the second march parade. This time in the pouring rain, and again a short service at the Earby cenotaph, again the last post was played, two minutes silence, then reveille and a few hymns played. Back to the Earby community centre for a cup of tea and a biscuit, then home.

I feel a certain amount of pride in having taken part in these ceremonies, and I am glad we still remember all the men and women who gave their lives in those conflicts, and are continuing to do so even up to the present day.

You should feel a "certain amount of pride" - truly! For how easy it is to simply forget the huge sacrifices made on all of our behalf - good for you, Plastic Nev.

Our Memorial Day is held on Tuesday, the 11th (11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month) - and undoubtedly it will be pouring down with rain here as well. Drat, one would think that Mother Nature could surely cooperate!

I live in a small village and there was a parade yesterday, at most you see about 50 people at any one time in the village, yesterday there must have been in excess of a 1000, the roads were blocked and they held it near a memorium thats in the centre.
