Guest Nick van Ogtrop-de Ruiter Posted September 25, 2007 Posted September 25, 2007 I am confronted with an issue on a recovered Windows Server 2003 server whereby the MDAC installation appears to be corrupt. The server in question has been recovered by booting to a 2nd Windows installation, and as a result I fear there is a discrepancy between MDAC files in the Windows folder (C:\WINRESQ) and those in the Programs folder (C:\Program Files). I've run the ComponentChecker and this also finds mismatches, or at least files from 2 MDAC versions (MDAC 2.8 RTM & MDAC 2.8 SP2 on Windows Server 2003 SP1). I suspect the Programs folder files will potentially have been updated whilst the server was running with it's previous installation ... What am I wanting to do ...? I am attempting to install McAfee Protection Pilot on this server, using an MSDE instance on the same server. MSDE installs correctly, but when I try to to access the database during the installation of Protection Pilot (using a valid domain account with sufficient privileges) I get an error referring to a missing DefWindowProcI call in MSDART.DLL. The server is running SP1 with R2 components, and I have tried to reinstall MDAC (the only available download version is 2.8) but the problem remains. I am hesitant to attempt a reinstall of Server 2003 SP1, or even SP2, for fear of breaking even more. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Guest Nick van Ogtrop-de Ruiter Posted September 28, 2007 Posted September 28, 2007 RE: Reinstalling MDAC on Windows Server 2003 SP1 After having been confronted by various issues relating to Windows File Protection, I have now resolved this fairly simply by copying the contents of the \Program Files\Common Files\System folder from a correctly functioning and updated Windows Server 2003 SP1 system to the same destination folder on the faulty system. This has removed the discrepancy between the various MDAC files, and the Component Checker now reports only MDAC 2.8 SP2 to be installed.
