Outlook Express Compacting

Being a simple minded soul I use Outlook Express rather than Outlook or anything more complicated. Because I use it for business it checks (or I check) for new email fairly often.

 

Is there any way of stopping the automatic recomendation to compact files that comes up all to often in my case. It takes to long and comes up to often. I would prefer to just do it every so often when I walk away etc.

 

It is no big deal to just cancel it and leave it for later but eventually it makes me feel guilty.:rolleyes:

 

If anyone knows of a way get it to stop I would like to know.

I read the link but in my version of OE6 at least there is no compact messages in background option in maintainance or anywhere else that I could find.

You need to go into the Advanced aspect.

 

It's at the bottom right Barry.

Honestly there is no advanced aspect under maintainance in outlook express at least in mine.

You know Bob I knew most of that but never knew that deleted messages are just hidden until files are compacted. I guess I will just put up with the every 100 checks. Ill just go to the loo while it does its thing. Thanks good info!!!!

I use Windows Mail on Vista but it's more or less the same thing.
