Hi Phil,

I'm wondering if this is a hardware fault. Anything that continues after a full Windows reinstall has to be either hardware related or setup error, the latter being more unlikely.

You could try plugging in your PS2 mouse starting your laptop, then disabling the internal touchpad and restarting.

Did the problem occur immediately following the install, or after you installed third party programs?

Simply plugging in a PS2 mouse won't disable an onboard touchpad and mouse controls - they will both work together.

If there is a touchpad fault, it may affect how the mouse clicks work - so just disabling to check for any difference is worthwhile to rule that out.

I've seen a similar thing happen, tapping a touchpad gave a left mouse click on a system I worked on - odd, but in the end it was the touchpad wiring that was at fault.

Hope that makes sense.....

Cheers Phil, that makes sense.

I think it would be worth a look in Device Manager, and if you can disable the onboard device, give it a try. It's different to switching it off.
