I know that most of you have come to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help because you have a computer problem and didn't know where to turn. That was me a short while ago. My laptop had turned into a paperweight.

 

Even if you are like me, an information taker with little to offer on the techincal side of things I would still urge you to stick around and visit whenever you are on line. First of all there is an awful lot you can learn by just reading posts and threads.

As important, the people here are not one dimensional. If you are reading this look around this area and you will see what I mean. Sure they are great at what they do. Their first priority is to sort out our problems. But they are also some pretty cool people with ideas (big and small,) a good sense of humour (some anyway :)) and much to offer besides just their expertise. It also gives us hopeless ones a good place to share ideas.

 

Believe me this is unsolicited and I am not part of the Free PC World establishment. I just know a good thing when I see it. So Stick Around and say hello!!

Thank you very much for those kind words Barry; it really boosts our confidence. As Dalo has already said, we might not always be here, so its users we rely on to share the responsibility because as our signatures say, no one knows the answer to everything and you might have the solution to a problem that even stumps the "experts".

Hi Dalo,My internet speed averages 4500 /sec. I am on ADSL2 High Speed Band.

To load takes me 30sec plus. I just tested 5 UK sites and everyone loaded in under 2 sec. Most sites are around 2 seconds,mate.

I am at a loss as to why FPCH has always been around 30 sec.Even refresh is 30 sec. To post almost as long.

Rowal5555 from New Zealand has the same problems.

This has been discussed previous with no solution.

If I can load just about any site on the net in seconds,then It's not my end.

Do you know if Rowal555 and yourself are on the same ISP?

 

We have had an issue in the past where the ISP (your broadband provider) was having issues connecting to our server.

 

If it's an isolated problem then I will speak to you privately via PM and get some information from you (IP Address, ISP, etc). With this information I can then investigate it further with the Data Center (where the server is based) and see if we can try to resolve the issue for you.

Hmmm! Seems no good deed goes unpunished.

 

I will add my 2 cents. I have a connection that does not even come close to yours (1700 to 1800 max.) I tried to upgrade to 7mg and was told my line is not good enough. That being said, I have no trouble with getting what I consider a pretty reasonable and totally acceptable load time and refresh time.

 

I can get a google search in about 3 seconds and get here in about 4 to 5. While I don't know your age, Doug, I am betting that you have more seconds to spare than I do.

 

I have a fairly packed "my Yahoo" page and its load time is about the same as here.

Anyhow it was not my intention to turn this into a technical debate. I would not like to see this as putting anyone off What I would like is for more people to share ideas. I have enjoyed your posts in off topic threads and hope I will continue to see them.

i dislike using firefox, but i always use it for freepchelp because otherwise it takes forever to load and slows down my other windows too. but when i use firefox it works like any other site. give it a try. it may help.
