Manual NIC Settings Not Sticking?

Server: Windows 2003 Server hosting DFS Targets.

I have set the primary NIC to manually assigned TCP/IP Settings.

I changed the Gateway from my SBS2003 server, to the master Layer3 Switch.

But for some reason it keeps wanting to change back to the SBS server.

Very annoying as this stops DFS talking across the VLAN's on the switch

(blocked by ISA2004 on the SBS). It works fine when i've set it, then for

some reason like a new remote desktop to that server, it sets the Gateway

back to the SBS. It also resets when I reboot the server.

This is when I hate things being done for me by Windows. I want something

set, and I want it for a reason. It shouldn't be the case that the Software

knows better in user-configuration circumstances.

I tried running batch files in the startup folder but they never

counter-acted the gateway change.

How can i set these settings on the NIC, in stone so they wont change no

matter what Windows says? Its causing me real headaches.

Thanks.

Forgot to add.

I updated the Router object in the DHCP Scope Settings, so all users now

applying for DHCP IP's, get a Gateway IP of the switch not the SBS first.

This works great.

But the Server in question, doesn't get a dynamic address from the DHCP so

for whatever reason it chooses the SBS as default gateway. It remains

over-ridden for a while but if the connection is lost and restored, the

server is restarted or a new remote desktop into the server is initiated, it

sets itself back to the SBS gateway!! Grrr.

Hello Chris,

I'm experiencing a similar problem with Win2K3 R2. In my case, I've got the

Windows 2003 server running as a DHCP server. I entered in static

IP/subnet/gateway/DNS settings but the manual settings always revert back to

DHCP for some reason. I've done a bit of searching and haven't noticed many

postings with people having issues with the NIC settings not sticking. I

hope someone on the newsgroup has some idea what's going on. Thanks.
