Guest Adam N. Posted September 27, 2007 Posted September 27, 2007 Is there a Default Backup User account already created in W2K3? I am wanting to use a NAS to backup some directories on a W2K3 server, the utility wants an account to access the server with, so if there was a default account already created I would like to just use that. If not should I just create a user account specifically for this function? Thanks in advance,

Hello Adam N., This is a so called service account, which sometimes need some special rights on the server, without becoming an administrator. Check the installation manual if they are needed and if you have to configure tehm by hand or if it is done during the installation when you provide the account. Guest Stig Nielsen Posted September 27, 2007 Posted September 27, 2007 Re: Is there a Default Backup User in W2K3? Hi Adam, You can create a user, and make it a member of 'Backup Operators'. But You have to insure that you don't have any "special" ACL on the files you want to backup. Guest Adam N. Posted September 27, 2007 Posted September 27, 2007 Re: Is there a Default Backup User in W2K3? So which service account do I use? The utility has a spot to put in the credentials of an account that can access the folder that I am going to backup. I would like to know which account to use.......to put into the utility THANKS "Meinolf Weber" wrote: > Hello Adam N., > > This is a so called service account, which sometimes need some special rights > on the server, without becoming an administrator. Guest Meinolf Weber Posted September 28, 2007 Posted September 28, 2007 Re: Is there a Default Backup User in W2K3? Hello Adam N., Sorry i think i was not clear enough. You have to create it by yourself, just a normal user account. But you should use a long, strong and not expiring password for it. And do NOT work with that account, let it only be used by the program.
