Guest Wolfeymole Posted November 8, 2008 Posted November 8, 2008 We find there are two instances of that model. hp Dv9628ca and hp Dv9628nr Which one is yours Sneddon? Can you also elaborate on what your "PC Experience" means please. Quote
RandyL Posted November 8, 2008 Posted November 8, 2008 There are a lot of possibilties here but it could be the hard drive. If it is you should hook it up via a laptop to desktop cable converter and see if you can transfer and save your data to a desktop before doing anything else. After that try tapping F11 at boot up and select "Advanced" to repair startup. It may or may not work. This is just one possibility but since you have not made the recovery DVD's you may have to order a set. Of course all data will be lost if you choose to recover via the DVD or F11 so backup now as I said. You may also want to wait for other members ideas first. RandyL Posted November 8, 2008 Posted November 8, 2008 See if you can order the set here since you didn't make a set if you are in North America. The cost is minimal. https://warp2.external.hp.com/driver/dr_country_select.asp?Product=451474-001&lang=en&cc=us I started here. Goku Posted November 8, 2008 Posted November 8, 2008 Hello and Welcome to FPCH Sned. :) A bit off topic but I think he has used alpha numeric characters to signify Epic PC Geek (might have been easier to read if I were dyslexic!). Of course, he might be able to elaborate better on what it actually means. Back to the problem, it is being reported everywhere but doesn't seem to have a definite solution to it. Some people have resolved the problem by unplugging all the USB devices and then booting the system while others have said that disabling the UAC after booting into safe mode. Try both the set of solutions and let us know if any of them works for you or not. Also, while you are at it, try to restore the computer to its last working state by choosing the Last Known Good Configuration (advanced) options on the Windows Advanced Options Screen. Hope that helps. Good Luck. :) -- Goku Quote
