Can't get microphone to work!?!

Recommended Posts

I have never used my microphone on my ASUS P5P800SE, and tried it

today and found that although I can hear fine out the speakers, after

using two different microphones, I cannot record sound.

I tried to go to SoundMax's website to update their product, but

couldn't find it. So I went to ASUS and updated the newest driver for

the soundmax, but I already have 5.0 and the update was for 5.0.

So any ideas?

I have tried pluggin the microphone into the three different inputs,

but nothing works. Also went into Recording properties and switched

it to MIC and then tried all the same things with LINE IN. Nothing.

Some SoundMax systems have this problem, microphone will work, but you

will not be able to hear it.

What you can try is:

Double-click speaker icon in system tray (next to clock), you will see a

window with several sliders.

First two sliders from the left are Volume and Wave respectively. At

least Wave has to be set full.

Click 'Options', 'Advanced' if available.

When available, check the microphone boost settings, enable if this is

disabled.

If you had your microphone too close to your speakers you might already

have heard the lovely screech by now. :)

Adjust other microphone settings here by preference/test.

There should also be a SoundMax control panel under Start, Settings,

Control Panel where you can edit specific SoundMax settings for the

SoundMax chipset.

Failing the above, you might want to remove, and reinstall your SoundMax

hardware with the latest driver you found already.

Reboot between installations to be sure.

As a side note, microphone will not work on Line-in, as this input is not

amplified/equipped for unamplified microphones.

Re: Can't get microphone to work!?!

It seems like I have tried everything. I have now tried two mics on

two different computers (both ASUS integrated sound motherboards). I

cannot get any mic to work. I have tried running the MS sound

recorder and watching for the spikes with the sound, but nothing. I

must be doing something so stupid that I can't see it...I just can't

figure out what it is. The speakers work fine, but the mic refuses to

work. I have tried recording with MS sound recorder and listening to

see if anything comes through on all of the inputs, but nothing at

all. I went to device manager, checked out VOICE and everything is

fine. There are no conflicts and no yellow exclamation marks. I also

used the WIZARD with SoundMAX and it tells me that it has failed the

Mic test (on both computers).

What the devil I am doing wrong, I just don't know...
