hey ppl.first of all i dont have a problem i just wanted some experianced opinions about LCD monitors.

i been pretty interested in buying an LCD monitor pref 19" so i could play my xbox 360 and also to use it as a monitor for my pc.but alot of my friends have been saying that an LCD screen as a monitor has been giving them problems and the resolution is no a as good as it would be on a standard pc monitor. is that true? or does it depend on the LCD screens resolution and also the price of the LCD monitor.

please feel free to move this post if it doesnt belond here, but like i said i m just looking for general opnions and also tips on what to look for in LCD monitors if i decide to buy one.

thank you

I prefer to use PC Monitors for gaming as they do not 'ghost' as most cheap LCD televisions do.

LCD if it supports 1080p will give you 1920x1080 resolution, which is the max that an XBOX can take - PC's on the other hand can game at any resolution GPU and Monitor permitting.

*Note all XBOXES scale at 720* so as long as it supports that then you are fine with an LCD but if you play games or fast moving programs then an LCD may not be the best view for a PC.

Hope this makes sense - please ask if you have any questions about the above.

hey thx for the quick dalo

the monitor is only gonna be used for a xbox mainly,i was gonna use it as a pc monitor too but decided against it,i got a perfectly good 19" monitor, it be a waste to just throw it away if you what i mean :D.

what do you mean by "ghost" and when you mention scale at 720* what do you mean , i was looking at a 15" LCD Polaroid 1543WX - 15" Widescreen HD Ready LCD TV - With: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo coming to think of it a 15" will be just fine and i do at the same time want to take the advantage of HD gaming.

would that monitor be good to play the xbox on HD

thank you

ghosting is when you get an image and the screen cannot process the information fast enough and the image literally looks like its dragged accross the screen in a blur -

The XBOX 360 can run in 3 HD Modes - 720i, 1080i, 1080p BUT the monitor has to support it - 1080p is the best and normally the TV's that support it are very big and expensive.

As long as that screen supports 720 then you are fine :)

Also check that your XBOX has a HD slot on the back as some of the older ones do not :)

hey dalo, thx for the explanations.I had a look at the monitor and it supports 1080i so I should be fine.I m not sure about the 'ghost' issue thou unless I buy it and see but Im sure for just gaming should be alrite, hopefully :D

I probably be getting the Xbox 360 from the shops so I will defo make a note to make sure it comes with a HD slot.even thou most xbox 360s come with a HD slot as standard, also safe to make sure ey :)

thank you again for your help

It should be fine then -

all XBOXES now come with them - the very first ones did not - and unless you buy an elite you need to buy a HDMI cable as the normal XBOXES dont come with them - and make sure its long enough - I got a 3M one off ebay for £5 including postage :D

have a look at some reviews of the monitor to check that it doesnt ghost - as if it does it makes it pretty much unplayable

While we are on this subject, does any manufacturer make a plasma monitor screen? and if so what are the advantages or disadvantages in comparison to both LCD and the older technology CRT?

Most plasma/LCD tvs have PC connectivity ability - via HDMI, DVI or VGA.

But I am not sure if they do any smaller ones and in my eyes they would provide no benefit whatsoever over a PC monitor - the resolution is not as good and they normally have a much slower grey to grey scale and suffer from poor response times.
