sho-dan Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 First there was the Google Toolbar And Everywhere That Java Went, Microsoft's Toolbar Did Too Starting today, when Java users around the world are prompted to download an update, the Windows Live toolbar will be offered as a tag-along, according to Microsoft representatives. It's part of Microsoft's continuing effort to raise awareness about its competitor to Google's market-dominating search site. Not only will the toolbar give access to Live Search, but also to MSN content like news, and to Live services such as Hotmail and Windows Live Messenger. New Java look Note: Time to change your Java CS to *uncheck* "Install the new MSN" Toolbar which is set at default to install. http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f393/sho-dan/java.jpg *uncheck* If warranted Quote "Don't worry about a thing, Cause every little thing gonna be all right" Bob Marley

RandyL Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 Sad but true. More and more you have to check what other programs get installed when you update your current programs. It used to be you could opt for the others. Now you have to opt out. A dirty trick but they know it works. Quote We are all members helping other members. Seth Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 Sad but true. More and more you have to check what other programs get installed when you update your current programs. It used to be you could opt for the others. Now you have to opt out. A dirty trick but they know it works. Right on the money. Java has been doing it with the Open Office installer package, but that doesn't actually install any extra app. I consider it under-handed to deceivingly install a browser toolbar when updating Java. Seth Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 MS and Sun will throw their hands up and say, "But the end user has the option to uncheck it". However, they know very well that the end user either won't notice it, or will but think they need it. That's precisely why I called it underhanded, and randy called it a dirty trick. Besides, for their argument to even begin to hold any logical coherency, the option would be unchecked. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help.
