Disabling MS Security Esssentials

I'm trying to update the software for WD My Passport 500 GB Exterior Hard Drive and their website asks me to update the drive firmware and then the WD Smartware software. But before I'm to do this, I need to disable any antivirus and anti spyware.

How do I do this for MS Security Essentials?
