Install Windows 8 on rebuilt computer that has no operating system, but I own Windows XP

I am rebuilding my computer, new mother board, hard drive, etc and will transfer my Windows XT license to this reconfigured computer. Can I purchase the Windows 8 download and install it directly on my reconfigured computer. I don't think I can reinstall

Windows XP since the disks are for a Dell computer, my original computer. Thanks
