Since loading updates two days ago my Office Starter 2010 components will not open, says retry or re

I loaded Windows updates 2 days ago and now I can't open Word or Excel in Office Starter 2010 package, tells me to try again or repair using Control Panel. I have tried going back to a restore point before the error occurred but still get the same message.

Most of my work is in Excel so I'm stuck until this is resolved, As a non-expert I need a solution in basic terms.
