Apps will not open

Hi,

A couple of days ago certain apps stopped opening including store. I don't get any errors just the splash screen opens with the logo and closes again. I've tried changing the UAC settings, disabling AVAST, there isn't a problem with the screen resolution.Don't want to have to do a clean install and that will just be a hassle. I've also tried refresh but my laptop doesn't seem to refresh windows 8. It gets to the point where it asks me to insert the media with the installation file which I do but then it says it can't verify it. Anyone got any other suggestions?

I'm currently using windows 8 pro.
