error 641 and 80070641 Windows 7 update failure on two seperate computers

I have been trying to update my 64 bit lap top and desktop (both Windows 7) On the laptop, windows update won't launch at all, it keeps telling me to restart.... I have turned off and turned back on the updater via net stop msiserver feature... which

doesn't matter. I can't find an article that will help get the updater running on my laptop.

 

On my desktop, important updates fail to install, time and time again... for no reason other than the error listed above. I have turned off the firewall and antivirus. That doesn't help. Once it befriefly said I was up to date before it flashed to the

screen saying updates failed. I managed to get 5 of the 18 that wouldn't install by trial and error of trying to install them one at a time.... Most of them fail one at a time or together with the Code 80070641.

 

Any help would be appreciated. I have found one other article in the data base that I followed that did not help either.
